Update (May 13, 2020): Due to the global corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic and the virtualization of the conference we have modified the structure of the workshop to address the challenges posed by the virtual nature of the conference, the vagaries of time zones and the limitations of working from home. The workshop will have the following structure:
1. Two weeks before the day of the workshop we will send participants a video welcome message and set of instructions in which they will be asked to describe their playful food tradition in a short video and complete a set of design prototypes based on a number of play potentials.
2. The produced videos will be shared with all participants.
3. On the day of the workshop we will have one or more (depending on the vagaries of time zones and participant availability) video conference sessions of about 90-120 minutes to discuss the outcomes of the design prototypes, the ways in which playing with culture can inspire technology design and our plans for future work.

Original structure:
The workshop will run from 9am to 5.30pm. In the morning, we will share strategies to chase cultural play. Participans will present their playful food traditions, and we will form small groups to analyse them using experimental food design methods. In the afternoon, we will design and prototype new play-food experiences inspired by the play potentials identified in the traditions, and discuss how playing with culture can inspire technology design. We will provide a set of prototyping materials to facilitate the activities and discussions. We propose the following schedule:
9:00-9:30 Welcome and outline of workshop plan.
9:30-10:00 Organizers and participants share their strategies to chase cultural play.
10:00-11:00 Leveraging those strategies, groups of 3-4 people enact and experience playful food traditions to chase play potentials.
11:00-12:00 Groups share findings and strategies used. All play potentials are clustered on an affinity diagram and linked to the strategies employed.
12:00-1:00 Lunch.
1:00-2:30 Design session 1. In groups of 3-4 people, participants ideate a playful food intervention, using as inspiration the play potentials chased in the morning.
2:30-3:30 Design session 2. Groups finalize and document designs. We prepare for the play-tasting.
3:30-4:30 Play-tasting of the designs and discussion about how they relate to the traditions and playchasing strategies presented in the morning.
4:30-5:00 Reflection on how playing with culture can inspire design and research.
5:00-5:30 Discussion of future steps in this area.
5:30-onward Optional post-workshop dinner to continue the discussions
